The conference was coordinated by the Spatial Sciences Institute Western Australia, and was attended by up to 80 people; licensed surveyors, government personnel and land professionals involved in planning and building local landscapes. Albany Chamber of Commerce Business Award Runner-Up

Harley Global were pleased to be announced as a runner-up in the prestigious Albany Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, announced in February 2009. Harley Global were nominated within two categories: Businesses with more than 20 Employees and Industry Development and Export. The Group considers their innovative employment and recruitment techniques important factors in receiving runner-up status. The awards are designed to recognise outstanding businesses of all sizes who contribute to the success, recognition and growth of the Great Southern region. Interactive Mapping

As part of Harley Global's commitment to technology and growth, they are now offering models and plans to their clients in innovative formats. Due to a recent upgrade of Microstation software, survey data can be translated to create 3D models, which are then sent to clients in a simple PDF document. The difference to a normal PDF is that the document is completely interactive; the client can zoom in on, rotate and spin around the feature, seeing it in as much detail as they like. Unlike a flat map or plan which only shows two dimensions, the new technology adds the third, creating realistic impressions of features or land forms. Harley Global are currently utilising this technology in various unit developments, town planning, and landscaping projects.

Busselton's Extreme Makeover

The Group's Busselton Office is certainly a sight to behold. The long-awaited renovations to the building are now complete, and the result has exceeded everyone's expectations. The Changing Face of Harley Global

After months of hard work and patience, the Bunbury office renovations are now completed. The new office design is clean, modern, and welcoming, with great use of the Harley Global colours throughout. The Bunbury office is also shared with Insitu Planning and Design, which is a partner company to Harley Global. The new office is certainly a stand-out, and catches the eye of anyone passing by. Check out the photos of the finished project below, or pop in for a look, at 21 Spencer Street, Bunbury.

Digital Level for Precision

Harley Global have recently purchased a digital level to improve the accuracy of their measurements. A digital level incorporates a barcode scanner, which scans a code on the staff. The level then digitally stores the measurements with a simple press of a button, ready to download onto a computer back at the office. The digital level is much more precise than its optical predecessor and reduces the time spent in the field manually recording measurements. It also allows readings up to decimals of millimetres, ideal for highly accurate settlement surveys of large structures.

Microstation Software Training

In August this year, Harley Global's drafting personnel engaged in some specialist training for their Microstation software. A training specialist from Perth attended the Bunbury office for the hands-on session, allowing a more in-depth experience than standard group training. The team was able to ask questions and learn about issues specific to the work they carry out, utilising the software. The software allows the development of 3D models, providing clients with a simpler format to view the results of specific projects, such as the one featured in the Winter 2007 Newsletter.

Vision for the Future

We have given you the privilege of viewing the plans for the re-development of the Busselton Harley Global office, planned to commence in the next few months.

Our quaint little house is undergoing a significant transformation and extension, allowing a huge expansion of the office area and the inclusion of a front verandah and courtyard. The building is also being rendered and given a new coat of paint, modernising its overall look and style.

We are also incorporating an impressive, purpose built boardroom into our new building, ideal for client meetings and presentations.

The building is designed to be a reflection of our modern style and dedication to continuous growth and improvement. We are also committed to offering our personnel a positive and productive working environment, with adequate facilities for expansion and growth in future years.

We are anxious to see our plans become reality, and estimate final completion to be mid 2008. Our marketing agency, Jack in the box of Busselton, will also help us design our reception area, to achieve consistency of our brand through a unique entrance statement. Please keep an eye on future newsletter editions for updates on the progress of the re-development.

Air Targets and Photogrammetry

Air Targets are used frequently by the Harley Global's field teams, and provide measured dimensions on aerial photos used frequently for the surveying and mapping functions.

These measured dimensions enable the photogrammetrist to accurately map each photo's stereo pair producing seamless and dimensionally correct Ortho imagery. The Air Targets also allow geo-referencing to fit other data with known co-ordinates and the accurate mapping of contours and any other visible feature sets on the photo such as roads, kerbs, houses and vegetation.

Land and Harley Global

Land is the commodity that underpins the economic and cultural foundation of the western world.

From city skyscrapers to urban residences, from huge mining ventures to rural production, from processing plants to manufacturing industries the essential common denominator which underpins our private and commercial lives is the asset of land and its security of tenure.

Land is the basis for commercial development. It is a measure of personal wealth. However the fundamental aspect of SECURITY OF TITLE are often taken for granted.

Surveying is the profession that deals with all aspects of land and / or property:

  • ownership of
  • creation and definition of legal titles
  • investment in
  • development of
  • planning process
  • environmental factors

Harley Global has the regional coverage in professional resources, technical expertise, and demonstrated reputation to ensure that your ownership of land is protected and your investment in land is maximised

Engaging Harley Global means that you can draw on the benefits and services of an organization that:

  • has a history dating back to 1954
  • has established and fully serviced offices in the Regional Centres of Albany, Bunbury and Busselton.
  • has strong local knowledge and contacts
  • invests in technology
  • maintains currency with industry and legislation trends

Our personnel consists of seven licensed surveyors, seven engineering surveyors, two professional planning consultants and three drafters. Administration and technical assistants give abundant support to these staff members.

Planning Legislation Update

The City of Albany has recently advertised its Local Planning Strategy, with submissions closing on the 15th December 2006. Council is now considering the submissions and is planning to release the outcomes toward the middle of this year. The implications of this Strategy are very important to Harley Global as they will greatly affect the development of land in the Albany region.

The City of Albany is also releasing the first draft of its Structure Plan for the Little Grove development very soon, and we look forward to seeing the outcomes.

Another important development is that the Western Australian Planning Commission is in the process of reviewing the Residential Planning Codes (R-codes) of Western Australia. The R-Codes provide the basis for controlling the siting and design of residential development throughout Western Australia.

Harley Global and the St John of God Foundation

We are very pleased, and proud, to announce that Harley Global has made a generous donation of $25,000 to the St John of God Foundation. The donation is being paid in yearly increments of $5,000 for the next 5 years. The donation is a contribution to the development of a new comprehensive Cancer Centre, in Subiaco, Perth.

The Cancer Centre is designed to be a 'one-stop approach' to patient care, incorporating all aspects associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment, allowing cancer patients and their families to receive vital treatment and support in one location. The goal of the Cancer Centre is to enable St John of God Health Care to meet its vision of reducing the burden of cancer on all Western Australians.
